NLCU: Fostering Community Change: Crafting Equity Vision Statements

Date(s):
September 12 — October 17, 2024
Description:

It starts with a vision. In order to tackle racial injustice, local leaders need to work with residents and other partners to articulate the community’s hopes and dreams for a fairer, more equitable future. What will such a future look like? How will the community benefit? In this workshop, local leaders will learn the ins and outs of crafting racial equity vision statements as an inspiration and a guidepost for communitywide action. A key focus: engaging community members as active participants in developing statements and plans and driving lasting change.

Key takeaways from the workshop for leaders include:

- A deeper understanding of how to rally residents, government, and other sectors around a shared vision for racial equality in your community.
 - Insights on how to engage community residents, especially communities of color, in providing input and sharing their vision and insights.
- Templates, models and ideas for drafting a racial equity vision statement that will drive real action in your city or town.
